Randall L. Brown Randall L. Brown graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, cum laude, in Lansing, Michigan, with distinction in 1981, receiving the Most Distinguished Student Award and thereafter was a law clerk for the Honorable C.H. Mullen before entering private practice. Mr. Brown has been practicing in the areas of domestic relations, criminal law, real estate, and business entities for over 30 years in the state courts of Southwestern Michigan. He has extensive experience in these areas and regularly practices in the Circuit Court, Family Court, District Court in the counties of Kalamazoo, Van Buren and St. Joseph. Mr. Brown is also general legal counsel for the City of Portage and has held that position for over 30 years. As City Attorney, Mr. Brown addresses a broad range of legal issues on a regular basis including matters concerning the Freedom of Information Act, Open Meetings Act, contracts, and zoning issues among many others. Mr. Brown is also the Village Attorney for the Village of Mendon located in St. Joseph County, Michigan. Mr. Brown is a Director and past President of the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys and the Michigan Municipal League's Legal Defense Fund, as well as a member of various committees, including the Legislative Concerns Committee. Mr. Brown is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and is admitted to practice before all courts in Michigan.
Charles R. Bear Charles R. Bear is a graduate of the Washburn University of Topeka School of Law, and received an M.A. degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Iowa. He began his legal career as a staff attorney for the Central Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Commission (CUPPAD) in Escanaba, where he provided planning and legal services for 93 units of government in the central upper Peninsula of Michigan. He subsequently was employed with the firm of Miel & Miel in Stanton, Michigan, which represented the villages of Stanton, Edmore and various townships in the central lower Peninsula. As the current Assistant City Attorney for Portage, Mr. Bear deals extensively with Freedom of Information Act requests, zoning and numerous other municipal issues. In addition to municipal law, Mr. Bear has much experience in the practice of estate planning, probate and bankruptcy, Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. He is also a staff attorney for the Bankruptcy Law Center.Mr. Bear is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Michigan.
Bryan W. Beach Bryan W. Beach received a B.S., with honors, in History from Central Michigan University and is a graduate of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. During law school, Mr. Beach was selected as a member of the Juvenile Law Moot Court team. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Beach served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney where he tried criminal cases in District and Circuit Courts. In private practice, Mr. Beach has experience in the areas of criminal defense, domestic relations, civil litigation, general practice matters and all areas of municipal law. Mr. Beach is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Kalamazoo County Bar Association.
Jody Tuinier Jody Tuinier is the Office Manager and Legal Secretary for Randall L. Brown. She has been a legal secretary for over 25 years. She has worked for both private law firms as well as for the local court system. She has worked for Randall L. Brown & Associates, PLC for over 10 years years. As Office Manager, Jody is responsible for supervising staff, office payables and receivables, payroll, client billings, office equipment and supplies. As Legal Secretary, Jody is responsible for work associated with Randall L. Brown's client files. This includes: client relations, document typing and filing, organization of client files, calendaring all file deadlines and for all correspondence. Jody further assists Attorneys Charles R. Bear and Bryan W. Beach.
